We all should know who the Sugababes are maybe not by the bands faces but via the name at least. I am not a big follower of the Sugababes music but I have always noticed through the media that the band members are always changing. Girls argue, fall out and then get kicked out, to be replaced by a new member who is really nice (for now anyway). However the main girly who has always stuck with the old and ever changing group has been Keisha. She has been in the band since its creation and she was actually the one who came up with the name. Having and using the band name Sugababes has never been seen as an issue. Even if you never saw the other members, if you saw Keisha you would know it was about the Sugababes or something to do with that band.
Well today Keisha is shaking up the Sugababes with a legal court action. She wants the Sugababes to stop using the band name or pay her a massive financial settlement in a new lawsuit.
“According to reports, the singer, who founded the girl group over a decade ago, has decided to sue the current line-up after she was kicked out last year.
The “landmark” High Court action will “send shockwaves through the industry,” it has been claimed, with Jade Ewen, Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah facing a costly legal battle to save their future. “
Here’s my shout out to Keisha ‘Girl, what took you so long to settle this madness’.
The first time I heard about Keisha being kicked out of Sugababes was last year sometime from a radio station, either Skyline or PCRL (sorry unsure which). I remember the DJ putting his point across about how Keisha should sue the band for using her band name. I totally agreed with that wise old DJ words. It makes sense for the new Sugababes to either stop using the name or giving up loads of the cash they are earning off of Keisha many years of branding. Look how long Keisha the original Sugababes has been going, how many songs they have produces, I assume the countries they have enter, their fan base. Then what, you want to kick the original girl out of the band, but want to keep the legacy and credibility of a name you had no part in building up.
I bet the new girls of Sugababes have being having their moments, of thinking this is easy. We sing, get paid and carry on as normal not even questioning that what they were doing could have consequences. Ideally, logically and professionally the all new Sugababes should have been prepared for this to happen at some point. It would have made sense for the new Sugababes to approach Keisha on a personal level and sort things out that way. Instead of doing nothing but happily enjoying the fame from a band they have tagged along with. If Keisha wins and stops them from using the Sugababes name, they are up the canal without a paddle you could say. Their singing future is over, dead in the water. They would be new comers and with the talent of new comers so high they will have hard competition to get to where they are now without the name of Sugababes to boost their likeability. Plus if Keisha wins the financial settle great too, but can the group’s management afford that amount of settlement Keisha is looking for. My question is why hasn’t the managers of the new Sugababes done or said anything or are they as naive as the group, happily to skip along thinking, hoping everyone will continue to be fine with it.
To Keisha ‘You go girl’
To Jade, Heidi and Amelle ‘Be afraid, be very afraid’.
Ever changing Sugababes:
The original Sugababes – Keisha stands to the left
Change 1 – Keisha stands to the left
Change 2 – Keisha stands to the right
Change 3 – no Keisha
